What does business aircraft insurance cover?

Hull cover, liability cover and the factors that set a private aircraft's premium, explained. This page does not sell or arrange insurance.

Business aircraft insurance is built from two core covers, hull and liability, plus the factors an underwriter weighs to set the premium. WhichFlagToFly explains the covers and the factors, and cites what the market and each registry publish.

Hull cover insures the aircraft itself against physical loss or damage, on the ground and in the air. Liability cover responds to claims a third party brings over injury or property damage the aircraft's operation causes, and it is usually the larger of the two exposures given the values involved in aviation claims. War and allied-perils cover, often carried separately, addresses risks most standard hull policies exclude.

Underwriters weigh the aircraft's value and type, how it is used, whether it flies privately or also under charter, the pilots' experience and type-rating currency, and the claims history. The published positions below are a market norm and a registry minimum rather than a quotation, each carrying its own currency and its source.
