What a yacht register charges
The three cost lines a yacht register sets itself: the entry fee, the annual charge, and tonnage dues, and why they do not scale alike across flags.
Three of the six lines in a yacht's flag cost are charged by the register itself, and they are the only ones an owner can read off a published schedule. This page separates them, because they behave differently: one is paid once, one repeats, and one scales with the vessel.
What is the initial registration fee?Link to this section
The charge for processing the application, allocating the vessel's registration and issuing the certificate. It is paid once and it is the figure most often quoted in isolation, which is why a flag comparison built on it alone compares the smallest of the three lines the register charges.

Do tonnage dues scale the same way everywhere?Link to this section
No, and some registers charge none at all. Tonnage measures internal volume rather than weight, and each register sets its own basis for turning it into a charge, so two flags compared at one vessel size can swap places at another without either changing its schedule.

What does the register not charge for?Link to this section
Survey and code compliance, tax, mortgage registration and the professional fees of whoever files the application. Those are the larger part of the bill for most vessels, and none of them appears on the register's schedule, which is why that schedule is a starting point rather than an answer.
