Who can own an aircraft on each registry
The eligibility conditions each aircraft register sets on who may hold title, what a trust or local company satisfies, and the limits set on the aircraft.
Every aircraft register publishes conditions on who may hold legal title to an aircraft on it, and those conditions are what a trust, a local company or a nominee arrangement usually exists to satisfy. Reading them first tells an owner which registers are open at all.
What do the registers require of an owner?Link to this section
Each publishes its own eligibility test, and they range from a nationality or residence link to an acceptance of any owner who appoints a local representative. Where the test is strict, the structure is not optional; where it is open, a structure may still exist for other reasons.

Does a trust or a local company satisfy the test?Link to this section
Frequently, and it depends on the register. What a register is testing is who holds legal title, so an arrangement that puts title in an eligible holder can open a register that the beneficial owner could not use directly. The financing then has to be built around it.

What limits does the register put on the aircraft itself?Link to this section
Separately from the owner, several registers set weight or age limits, and some set none. Where a limit applies and a specific aircraft falls outside it, the register is closed whatever structure the owner builds, so this is checked before anything is spent.

What marks does the aircraft carry?Link to this section
The register's own nationality prefix and a registration mark it allocates, which is what the aircraft is identified by for the rest of its time on that register. Some registers allow a degree of choice within the block they administer; others allocate in sequence.
